Steps to borrow
- Students must go to the Technology Loan desk to borrow technology; items are first come, first served. There are no reservations.
- There must be no fines or blocks on your account
- For most items, borrowers must be a current Hunter student.
- Technology Loans (Laptops, Chromebooks, iPads, and Apple pencils) require 2 photo IDs
- ID #1 Hunter One Card/Mobile ID (Passes, photos of IDs, or screenshots of Mobile ID are not accepted)
- ID #2 Secondary photo ID
- Must be physical
- Photos are not accepted
- Possible examples:
- High School ID, Passport, NYC ID, driver's license, work ID, etc. Must have name and photo on ID.
- Calculator loans only require a Hunter ID

Short term laptop and iPad loans are due 1 hour prior to the library closing.
Semester-long laptop and iPad loans are due the last day of the semester in which the laptop or iPad was borrowed.
Fall 2026 semester-long loans are due back by 12 P.M. on Monday, December 21st, 2026.
Semester loan users must sign a loan contract agreeing to the terms of the semester loan at the time device is borrowed.
Outstanding loans on laptops borrowed while campus was closed due to Covid-19 pandemic can be returned to the Library Technology Loan Desk during open hours.

Technology Loan Policies
To borrow a laptop from any of the Hunter College Libraries, you must :
- be a current matriculated Hunter College Student with no blocks on your record.
- have a current, validated Hunter Student ID and email address.
- have another photo ID such as a driver’s license, passport or State ID.
- read, understand and abide by all library technology loan policies as found on the Liability Agreement Form for 3 hr or all day loan*. Your signature is acknowledgement.
Additional information
- Only one laptop may be borrowed at a time.
- 3 hour loans must stay inside the library.
- Upon return, allow 15 minutes for laptops to be checked in with a library staff member who will verify that the computer is in working order before the borrower leaves the desk.
- Each laptop is loaded with the Hunter’s standard suite of programs.
- No programs, documents, etc., may be left on the computer. Everything, except for the preloaded programs, will be deleted when the machine is returned.
- Borrowers are responsible for the computer. If a machine is lost, stolen, or damaged, the student is responsible for the cost of replacement or repair.
- Overdue and lost / damaged fines:
- Macbooks: $40 per hour and $10 per 15 minutes or any portion of the 15 minute period (If you are 33 minutes late in returning a laptop, your fine will be $30); $2000 if lost or damaged.
- Dell, Lenovo, and Chromebook Laptops: $40 per hour, $10 per 15 minutes, $1000 if lost or damaged.
- iPads: $50 overdue fine per day, $500 for loss/damage, $40 for loss/damage to iPad charger
