Dr. LeMelle was Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs when he was appointed Acting President of Hunter College.  He first came to Hunter College as Professor and Chair of the Department of African & Puerto Rican Studies.  He also served as Chairman/Director of the Department of Academic Skills/SEEK program and as Acting Provost.  He was appointed Acting President of New York City Technical College in 1988 before moving to the City University of New York central office as Acting Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Special Programs.  In 1991, he became President of the University of the District of Columbia before retiring in 1996.  He has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (1953, 1958) from Xavier University and a Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Colorado, Denver (1965).
