Dr. Evangelos Gizis was appointed Hunter’s Vice President for Administration in August 1996.  In 1998 he was named Acting Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs before being appointed as Interim President in July 2000.  Dr. Gizis, whose fields of specialization are food science and biochemistry, began his CUNY career at Hostos Community College where he became Dean of the Faculty and served as its Acting President 1976-1977.  He then moved to Queens College where he served in several top administrative positions, including Dean of Administration and Deputy to the President.  In 1985-86, he was named Acting President of Borough of Manhattan Community College.  While at Hunter College, he was instrumental in the development of the 1999 Strategic Plan, the implementation of the Prelude to Success program and the establishment of the Oasis, a one-stop approach to providing registrar, bursar, and financial aid to students.
