Eleanor Hunsdon Grady |
Order: Acting, during President Shuster Dates: 1950 - 1951 Dr. Eleanor H. Grady was named Acting President while President George Shuster served as Land Commissioner in Bavaria, Germany. A New York City native, she was a graduate of Barnard College and earned her master’s and PhD from Columbia University. She began her teaching career at Mount Holyoke College before arriving at Hunter College in 1915. She successively filled the positions of Chairman of the Social Science Department, Academic Dean, Dean of Faculty and then Acting President. She was named Professor of Economics in 1943. As Acting President, she was largely responsible for organizing Hunter’s Bronx Campus into a 4-year co-educational college. She retired as Dean of Faculty in February 1953. |
