call number

Open http://library.hunter.cuny.edu in another browser window to work through this tutorial side by side.

If you're looking for a book in the Hunter College Libraries, you'll need a call number.  The call number tells you where to find the book. But how do you find the call number?

On the library home page, make sure that the CUNY+/Books tab is open (clicked).

NOTE: Use the arrow keys at the bottom of this page to advance through this tutorial.

Find the place where it says "keyword anywhere." This is a menu.  Instead, choose "Title begins with..."

Put the title you're looking for in the search box. Click Search

NOTE: Leave off "A" "An" or "The" if it is the first word. For example, search "Lord of the Flies" (not "The Lord of the Flies")

Click the title of your book from the Results list
Click the link in the availability column

The call number is in the middle of the page, in the call number column.

Write down the full call number or take a picture with your phone.

If your book is on reserve (Availability says "Hunter Reserve"), you'll give this call number to the person at the Reserve desk.

If your book is on the shelf, you'll need this number to look for it.
