Hold Requests

Hold requests can be placed on books that are charged out of the Hunter Libraries or another CUNY library.

If you locate the book you wish to borrow in CUNY+ but find that it is charged out to another patron, you may place a "hold" on that item:

  1. Click on the orange Request this Copy button.
  2. Enter your 14 digit barcode number that is on the back of your valid ID card. (Do not include spaces or dashes.)
  3. Enter your password. If you have not created a password, enter your 14 digit barcode number again.
  4. Make sure that "Hunter" is selected as the pickup library.* (Unless, of course, you wish to pick up the book from a different CUNY Library.)
  5. If you don't need the book after a certain date, enter that date in the format YYYYMMDD in Period of Interest field. (In most cases, you want to leave this field as-is.)
  6. Click on Go.
  7. A message will come up letting you know whether the hold request was successful.
  8. As soon as the book crosses the pickup library Circulation Desk you will be notified by email. The book can be picked up there within the next 10 days.

Be aware that others may place holds on a book after you check it out, preventing you from renewing it. If a book is requested for reserve use, individuals may not borrow it until it is placed on reserve and then only as a two hour reserve loan

*The Hunter Social Work and Health Professions Libraries are not pick up points. If you choose Hunter as the pick up location you must pick up your materials at Hunter Main.

Fines for Hold Requests returned after the due date are an additional $1.00 a day and can reach a maximum of $55.00 per late book.

Rush Recalls can be placed by faculty for reserve use.

If a book is recalled for reserve use, it can not be renewed and must be returned on the due date indicated in the recall notification. Please note that depending on the length of the loan, the loan period may be shortened.

Fines for Rush Recall Requests returned after the due date are an additional $1.00 a day and can reach a maximum of $55.00 per late book.
