As an alumni how can I get access to the library?
Do faculty get free printing anywhere on campus?

Yes.  Hunter College faculty get 300 free pages of printing at the lab on the 4th floor of Thomas Hunter Hall (where the help desk is).

How long does it take for a book ordered through CLICS to be delivered to Hunter?

Generally 3-5 days.

Where is chemistry tutoring in the library?

The Physical Sciences Learning Center (212-650-3707) is now located in the Library, floor B1.  Their tutoring schedule for chemistry, physics and astronomy is posted on the tutoring center's door.

Can I access the libraries databases from home?

Yes, you will need to login using your Hunter email password and i.d. To get specific information, click here.

How do I request books from other CUNY libraries?

As a Hunter College student, staff or faculty, you may borrow books from all CUNY libraries. Learn how this is done.

How do I find out what materials are on course reserves (aka reserves)?

How do I access the databases after I graduate?

You can only access the databases after you graduate while you are in the library. You no longer have remote access from home after graduation. To get access to the library after you graduate you must have an alumni card to replace your current Hunter ID or OneCard. Almuni cards are distributed by the alumni office, the library doesn't distribute or administer these cards in any way.

How do I check out a library-owned laptop?

May I search the internet on library computers?

Yes, the public computers are for research use. Learn more about internet access in the library.

Are there study rooms available for students who wish to work together?

Yes, they are available at the Main Library and the Schools of Social Work and Public Health Library. Rooms can accommodate small groups of students and can be reserved for a two-hour time slot. Are there adaptive technologies for students with disabilities?

How do I get on the internet using my personal computer?

The Hunter College Libraries have wireless internet access. All you need to do is enter your Hunter College email name (everything before the @hunter.cuny.edu) as the username and your Hunter College email password as the password.

Are there charging stations for my electronic devices?

Yes, the Main Library offers charging stations for your electronic devices, such as laptops, cell phones and iPods.  Charging stations are located on Floors 2 and 4 of the Main Library.

Can I print in the library?

Yes, you will need to pay for your printouts using your Hunter College OneCard. There is a OneCard Kiosk that allows you to add additional funds to your OneCard. The OneCard Kiosk is located on Floor 4 of the Main Library in a room behind the Reference Desk. For more specific information on cost of prints click here. Can I print from a laptop or mobile device in the library?

Yes. Please follow the instructions found here(pdf)/here(image).

Can I make photocopies in the library?

Yes, there are copiers located on various floors throughout the library. To take a look at a map of the Main Library to discover which floors have copiers click here. To find out cost click here.

Can I scan documents in the library?

Yes, we currently have a public scanner located in the Main Library, Floor 4, right next to the public printers.

Can I fax documents in the library?

No, we do not have public fax machines. There is a machine located in Student Services in Thomas Hunter Hall

Where can I fax?

There is a fax machine in Student Services in Thomas Hunter Hall.  

May I drink beverages in the library?

Yes, as long as your beverage has a lid. Open beverages are not permitted. Food is not permitted. For more information read the complete Food, Drinks, and Cell Phone Policy.

May I eat in the library?

No, unfortunately due to hygiene concerns food is NOT allowed in the library.

Is cell phone use allowed in the library?

If you must make a telephone call, short conversations are allowed by the main elevators on the following floors:  B1, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7.  Slient floors B2 and 5 have zero tolerance for cell phone conversations.  Other areas within the library that are also zero tolerace for all cell phone conversations ae the main stairwells. 

How many copies of my thesis are needed to deposit for the library archive collection?

One copy, along with a receipt of $15 from the Bursar's office, are required to submit to the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences for retaining your thesis in the library.

I'm from a library other than a Hunter College Library (example: NYU, Columbia, Fordham,MIT, etc.), may I use your library?

Hunter College Libraries are open to CUNY students, faculty and staff. METRO Card access is available for materials that are not available at your home library or at area public libraries. To learn more about the METRO Card program, click here.  Keep in mind that you can also have a book or article sent to you via inter-library loan (ILL):  see the librarian at your school for assistance.

How do I access Blackboard?

Blackboard questions are answered by the ICIT help desk at 212-650-3624 or email at studenthelpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu.

Will I be able to convert my RefWorks account when I graduate or leave Hunter?

You can convert your Hunter RefWorks account to an individual subscription or if you have access to a new Organizational RefWorks subscription, you can move your account.  To do this, select Tools, Backup/Restore and make a backup of your database.  You will be prompted to save a .zip or . rwb file to your computer.  In your new account, select Tools, Backup/Restore and use the restore option to add the .zip or . rwb file to your new account.  You can also export your reference data in several formats using one of RefWorks Export options.

How do I access my Hunter email account?

You may verify your username online at http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/icit/core-services/e-mail-faq. If you no longer have your initial password, or if you changed it and forgot it, contact the ICIT help desk to reset it. The help desk is available at 212-650-3624 or email at studenthelpdesk@hunter.cuny.edu. You may also bring your valid Hunter ID, bursar receipt or payroll stup and ID to room 109HN.

Can reserve materials be taken out of the library while they are checked out to a patron?

No, reserve materials must remain in the library while checked out by a patron.  The loan period for reserve materials is 2 hours.

Is there free printing/photocopying at Hunter for students?

Free printing and photocopying is available (up to 300 pages per semester) for undergraduates only at the Student Resource Center, Thomas Hunter Hall, Room 202.  Hour (subject to change anytime): M-F, 8am-8pm, Saturday 10am-6pm. Each semester undergraduates have a balance of 300 pages (printing and photocopying combined) that are paid for with their Student ID card.  This is not in anyway connected to the OneCard accounts that are used to pay for printing/photocopying in the library and elsewhere.
