By popular demand! Two more graduate research workshops will be held next week. If you were unable to attend a previous workshop, now is your chance:

Intro to Research for Graduate Students: Friday, November 20 from 12pm, room E609

This workshop will cover the basics of conducting research as a graduate student at Hunter College.

NEW!!
Intermediate/Advanced Graduate Workshop: Thursday, November 19, 2009, 6pm, room E609

This workshop is for those who have already attended our introductory graduate workshop or for those who want to go beyond the basics or research. We will cover the following topics:

1. Refworks. This software will automatically format your bibliography in your preferred style, for instance, APA. We will also look at some of its other useful features.

2. Citation indexes. Perhaps the best way to determine the quality of a peer reviewed article is to look at how often other peer reviewed articles have cited it. Also, looking at the articles and books that cite a given article is an effective way to find relevant sources on your topic. We will work with two citation indexes, Google Scholar and Web of Science.

3. Proximity searching. This method of searching is useful for intrepid researchers determined to find all relevant literature on a given topic.

The session will take approximately an hour, with the rest of the time devoted to questions and answers.
