Importing References to EndNote Web

If you want to search an open-access database, such as a library catalog, you can do so from within EndNote Web, by clicking on Online Search.

For password-protected databases, you need to import your references into EndNote Web.

To import references from a password-protected database:

  1. Search the database outside of EndNote Web.
  2. Save your search result in the appropriate format.  A chart showing database suppliers and import formats appears below.  All files must be saved as plain text (.txt) files.
  3. In EndNote Web, go to the Collect tab, then choose Import References.
  4. For the File field, browse your computer until you locate your saved database records.
  5. For the Filter field, select the import filter that matches the reference data format.
  6. Click the Import button.
