I am thrilled to welcome you all the Fall 2010 semester! Whether you, like myself, are new to the Hunter community or you are a returning student, faculty or staff, I encourage all of you to make to most of the people and resources available to you through the Hunter College Libraries.
There are so many ways we can help you begin this semester on a solid footing. Our Library Faculty has created subject guides and online tools to help you conduct better research. They also teach a variety of classes on library usage. Our Reserves staff is waiting to help students find material for courses or loan out laptops. And we’re working on making our facilities even better when it comes to group work, quiet study or access to technology.
I’d also like to point out to all Faculty that there is a Library Liaison for each Department, so please take advantage of these experts for your own research, as well as your class material.
And, of course, our online databases, journals and services are available 24 hours a day via our website.
Speaking of which, our new Library Website has launched and it’s a great way to get acquainted to the many services we provide. There is also a user survey on the Library Homepage, and we’re eager to receive feedback on the site.
It’s all still very new to me, but I look forward to working with everyone at Hunter. Before I arrived here, I worked in libraries in the heart of Tokyo, in the Bronx surrounded by animals, and in the heart of both Theater and Agriculture. But I think Hunter tops them all. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. I’d like to meet everyone who uses our great resources.
Chief Librarian, Assoc. Dean
