“Julie and Julia” and other food movies
August 25th, 2009 by Patricia Woodard
The current film about cookbook author Julia Child and food blogger Julie Powell has grossed almost $60 million in its three weeks of release (www.variety.com). But it’s just the latest cinematic treat for foodies. In case you’re inspired to try others, here are a few titles I recommend:
Ratatouille (2007)
Pieces of April (2003)
Mostly Martha (2002)
Dinner Rush (2000)
Big Night (1996)
Eat, Drink, Man, Woman (1994)
Like Water for Chocolate (1992)
Babette’s Feast (1987)
Tampopo (1985)
La grande bouffe (1973)
More information about these films, including some previews, is available at the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com).
The library has ‘Mostly Martha’ (DVD 454) and ‘Eat Drink Man Woman’ (VHS: PN1997 .E19 1998).
If you have other titles to add, let us know. Bon appetit!

Thanks, Patricia! Your post reminded me of an article I read in the New York Times the other day about “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” finally hitting the best-seller list after 48 years:

If there are any aspiring chefs out there, a quick search in CUNY+ shows we have it in the library…
