Diane Ravitch on The Daily Show
March 8th, 2011 by Hal Grossman
Here’s a video (8:10 long) of Diane Ravitch talking about her latest book, The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education:
Ravitch argues against standardized testing and the attempt to weed out bad teachers. She’s for teacher autonomy and, above all, reducing child poverty. She points out that low-poverty school districts in the U.S have the highest test scores in the world. (We also learn that Jon Stewart’s mother is a schoolteacher.)
Hunter owns Diane Ravitch’s newest book, along with 18 others by this prolific historian of education.
I would love to have Ravitch and someone else at Hunter to debate the future of public education. Do you have any suggestions for who should take the other side?
