Introduction to Library Research for Graduate Students

The following workshops will be held this month:

When/Where (Hunter Main Library):

Wednesday, February 18 — 6:00-7:30 (7th Floor Lab)

Thursday, February 19 — 6:00-7:30 (3rd Fl Internet Lab)

Wednesday, February 25 — 4:30-6:00 (7th Floor Lab)

Thursday, February 26 – 4:30-6:00 (Room 609)

This workshop is designed to help graduate students become more familiar with doing library research. The workshop will introduce students to the resources the library has available especially for graduate students. The atmosphere will be informal and the format will be flexible depending on the questions of the students. Information will be distributed and electronic resources will be demonstrated. Topics to be covered include:

• A list of subject bibliographers will be provided so that the students may schedule appointments with them to receive in depth help with their research.

• Students will be informed of resources outside of the CUNY libraries that are available to them through the use of interlibrary loan, Metro Referral Cards to other libraries, and information will be provided regarding other valuable public research libraries.

• The journal process will be fully explained and online databases most helpful to graduate students will be highlighted.

• Information on remote use of databases.

No reservation is necessary.

We will be offering additional graduate research workshops in April. Details to follow soon. The Library does not offer training on software, but ICIT has started training workshops on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, and BlackBoard for students. There are 2 upcoming workshops on Excel 2007. You can find more information here:
