Foreign Films in the Hunter College Library

July 7th, 2008 by Patricia Woodard

Many language instructors show films as a means of familiarizing students with a spoken language. Learners of a new language sometimes enjoy immersing themselves in a movie, with or without subtitles. The Hunter College Library has films in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish on DVD (and on VHS, for those who still have VCRs).

See Marlene Dietrich in ‘The Blue Angel‘ or Hanna Schygulla in Fassbinder’s ‘The Marriage of Maria Braun.’ Or get to know classics such as Visconti’s ‘Rocco and His Brothers’ or Truffaut’s ‘400 Blows.’

Movie titles or names of directors or actors are searchable in CUNY+. The Guided Search mode gives the best results, if one limits the Record Type to Videorecording. Some films are on Reserve but many others are available to check out.
