Invitation to Participate in the 19th Annual Paul LeClerc Competition for Best Research Papers

November 7th, 2011 by John Carey

As the semester progresses, we ask Hunter faculty to please bear in mind the library’s annual Paul LeClerc Competition for Best Research Papers, to be awarded in Spring 2012 at Hunter’s annual Library Day event.

Prizes will be awarded for student papers judged to be the best of 2011.  Instructors may nominate papers written for any course given in the winter, spring, summer, or fall semesters of 2011. All departments and special programs in the college may participate.

The goal of this competition is to stimulate the creative use of library resources, including those of the Hunter archives and the research facilities of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies.  Winning papers must be thoroughly researched, well written, and properly documented.

The library will award Barnes & Noble gift certificates in the amounts of $200 for first prize and $100 for second prize in the categories of  (1) 100-level undergraduate, (2) other undergraduate, and (3) graduate-level research papers.  Only papers submitted by course instructors will be eligible for awards.  Please submit no more than three papers for one course.  Theses are excluded.

The deadline for the 19th annual competition will be TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2012. Please send papers to John Carey at the Hunter Health Professions Library with a note giving the course name, number, and semester (Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall 2011).  Submissions should also include the student’s phone number, e-mail address, or other contact information. We welcome electronic submissions.  A faculty panel will select the winners.

The awards ceremony will take place at the college-wide Library Day celebration in April of 2012, at which time we will also formally recognize the faculty sponsors of winning candidates for their support in this common effort to promote the research and writing skills of Hunter students.

For more information please contact John Carey at 212-481-4326 or john.carey@hunter.cuny.edu.
